XPCOM registration changes coming to a trunk Thunderbird near you (Add-ons take note)

July 14th, 2010 Posted in Mozilla, Thunderbird

As some people may have already noticed, trunk builds (currently called version 3.2a1pre) of Thunderbird have been missing for the last couple of weeks. This is because the builds were broken by the xpcom component registration changes that recently landed.

The good news is, we’ve now fixed up all the breakage (well apart from getting one set of unit tests running again) and nightly builds will be going again from today.

For add-on authors supporting trunk, if you register your components, then you need to update your registration methods. There’s some good documentation on the MDC for how to do this.
