Thunderbird now has Leak and Bloat Tests

October 31st, 2008 Posted in Mozilla, Thunderbird

The Thunderbird tinderbox tree has just gained an additional set of boxes which are running Leak and Bloat tests. These tests have been running for a while on a Linux box on SeaMonkey, now we have full platform coverage on Thunderbird as well.

The tests are currently pretty simple, with a minimal profile, we start up, show the main message window, open a compose window and an address book window, then close all the windows. We are already planning on extending the tests to cover more of the code.

Full details of the tests in their current form and how to run them can be found on the wiki page. Meanings of the numbers displayed on the tinderbox view are also documented on the wiki (also linked to from the Tinderbox page in case you forget!).

There are currently no graphs for the data, though we are working on getting them running as soon as we can.

The boxes will turn ORANGE if “Mail RLk” (Reference Count Links) goes above zero bytes (in the same way as the Firefox ones currently do). The will also turn ORANGE if “Mail Lk” goes above a pre-set level.
